Here, I’m just going to talk about my favourite and in my opinion the best location in Ireland for an engagement shoot or elopement. It’s also my most popular location with visitors to Ireland – Wicklow. Otherwise known as ‘The Garden of Ireland‘ Wicklow is located just outside of Dublin.
As generally most visitors will spend at least some time in Dublin, it’s easy access from the capital makes it a popular choice. In terms of scenery, it’s got everything that a photographer wishes for. It’s got mountains, valleys, rivers, lakes, forests, narrow winding roads, open heather covered moors etc… Amazing changing light and incredible sunsets.

There is a huge choice of locations to shoot here. Over a period of several years photographing engaged couples in Wicklow, I have developed a route that I use for my engagement photos in Wicklow that really works. There is no difficult hiking involved and the locations never disappoint. The full route takes about 3 hours but that can be cut to for example a 1 hour session at either Glendalough National Park or Lough Tay.
If you have a rental car then great. I can meet you at a designated spot. However, if you don’t have access to a car, it’s not a problem. I can collect and drop you off at a nearby train station.
Regardless of the weather, the scenery here is beautiful so it doesn’t matter if it is cloudy skies, wet or bright and sunny. If it is the best location in Ireland for an engagement shoot or elopement, it will always work…!
