bride and groom walking along cliff on the Wild Atlantic Way

Wedding on the Wild Atlantic Way

An outdoor Irish summer wedding on the Wild Atlantic Way in a field. How could I resist..?

Wedding on the Wild Atlantic Way

I love outdoor weddings. I especially love scenery. I love couples who will trek the extra distance so that they make the most of the landscape for their photos and make them more unique. I also love couples who are just well…, laid back, up for a laugh and game for anything…  Meet Caroline and Bas. The perfect couple who decided to have their wedding on the Wild Atlantic Way.

It was an easy choice actually because Caroline’s mum owns a lovely guest house Gleann Dearg which is outside Dunquin on the Dingle pensulla right on the Wild Atlantic Way. The guesthouse with land attached overlooks views of the Atlantic coast with the Blasket Islands in the background. Perfect setting for a rustic wedding…. The B&B itself is very quaint, with wood furnishings, antique bits and bobs and an abundance of plants and flowers everywhere. Ryans Daughter Schoolhouse from the infamous film is also just a couple of kms away and became a desired location for family photos.

Caroline is from the area but Bas is from The Netherlands so it was to be an Irish Dutch wedding with about half of the guests travelling in from The Netherlands. This was especially interesting for me as I used to live in The Hague and photographed many weddings all over The Netherlands. I’d get to hear Dutch accents once again…!!

So the date was set and both bride and groom got ready in the guesthouse that morning. Complete chilled and laid back vibe going on here… Brilliant… !!

The ceremony itself was set in a beautiful hidden little glen right beside the guesthouse. An incredibly lovely, shady intimate setting which translated beautifully to the vibe of their wedding day. Drinks, speeches, presentations and congratulations all took place straight away after the ceremony for a while before we hopped into cars to set off for locations for family and also bride and groom photos.

Caroline having grown up in the area knew exactly all the locations that she wanted for photos. It was just a case of trying to fit everything in. Most locations involved a hike but everybody was up for it and it was just a magical experience. Weather was perfect, warm and still with slightly hazy sun for the entire day.

After all the photos were done it was back to the guesthouse where a marquee was set up for dinner- buffet BBQ style. Absolutely delicious….

As the sun went down, speeches and more toasts were made before sadly my time was up.

I love weddings and locations that are that bit different and this is one prime example. Thanks so much to both Caroline and Bas for choosing me to be their Wild Atlantic Way wedding photographer. It was truly an amazing day and I would have loved to stay longer and kick back and join in the fun. But another wedding in another location was calling me so I had to go…. 🙁
