Gina & David from the USA chose to have their wedding at Glenlo Abbey in Galway this summer. Glenlo Abbey is a 5 star hotel and golf resort just outside Galway city and nestled on the banks of the river Corrib. It is one of the most popular wedding venues in Galway and is a favourite amongst Galway wedding photographers. It’s expansive and varied grounds offer great opportunities for capturing lovely wedding photographs.
Gina & David’s Wedding at Glenlo Abbey Galway
I first met Gina & David earlier on in the year when the visited Ireland to firm up on their wedding arrangements. A really lovely and warm couple that you just instantly like. David is originally from Ireland but moved to the USA when he was a child. He never came home but despite that Ireland was the location of choice for their wedding. So, big day arrives and both bridal prep and groom prep were in the Glenlo Abbey Hotel as was the ceremony, so no travelling between different locations – brilliant..!
Bridal prep was well underway when I arrived. A busy room with 4 bridesmaids, grooms mother and flower girls..! But amongst the chaos everything was actually under control and on time. A few doors down the corridor the groom prep was also in full swing and was covered by one of my regular second shooters, Edel O’Malley.
Whilst there were a lot of Irish relatives at the wedding there was also a large number of friends and family that flew in from the USA including Gina’s dad. I can tell ya, there were some tear inducing moments when he arrived at her room to escort her to the ceremony.
An outdoor ceremony wasn’t possible due to the weather so the alternative option as in the beautiful little Abbey next to the hotel. Absolutely loads of emotions and tears during this intimate ceremony but those tears turned to laughs once the I Do’s were said and the rings were exchanged.
After the customary congratulations from the guests after the ceremony it was time for photos of the happy couple. With rain threatening every second we rode a golf buggy down towards the river Corrib stopping off at a few locations for photos which really showed West of Ireland grey cloudy weather at its best..! Between not so good weather and trying to get photos done it was one of those afternoons where time just runs away on you and it felt like mo time when the dinner bell sounded.
I was there to cover the speeches and first few dances where guests really hit that dance floor hard..!! Great day and a great couple. I wish them the every best for their future back in the USA. Here are a few photos from their Wedding at Glenlo Abbey.
