Loved by me for its splendid architecture and gardens, this was my first Irish/French gay wedding at the Killashee House Hotel in Naas, Co Kildare.
Irish/French Gay Wedding | Killashee House Hotel
William and Richard celebrated their gay wedding in style at the lovely Killashee House Hotel. When they chose me to be their gay wedding photographer, I was delighted not only because it was Killashee but being a gay wedding between two guys, means no wedding dress to fuss over and try and keep clean…! Ok, slightly tongue in cheek there but still a bit different to the norm which is always good. The lads booked me after a phone call earlier in the year so we only got to meet up a week or two before their wedding. Once we met however, I knew it was going to be a great day as our personalities clicked and we were all on the same page. Happy days..!
The Wedding Day
So the wedding day came and after a scorching hot sunny summer, it was overcast and threatening rain. So typical, but Killashee is lovely anyway so it really didn’t matter in the end. I guess all the French relatives and friends from William’s side got to see the stereotypical Irish summer…!
Both grooms stayed in the hotel the night before so preparations were held in the hotel that morning. There was a great relaxed vibe evident which remained throughout the day. With their civil ceremony about to start both William and Richard walked up the aisle with their mothers before the lovely Aoife Hurley celebrant from Spiritual Ceremonies commenced proceedings. By the time rings were exchanged there were a few wet eyes in the room. Having said that, laughter was my main memory from the ceremony thanks to Richard’s natural quick wit.
Afters
After the ceremony, Richard and William were congratulated by their guests before we headed outside to grab some photos of the grooms and their families as those clouds looked threatening. But it all remained good and the rain stayed away. Then back into my wedding documentary mode for the rest of the evening as the festivities continued.
Gay weddings rock..!
I’ll always approach them the same as any other wedding obviously but there is always a slightly different more relaxed type vibe going on which is nice.
Thanks so much to William and Richard for choosing me to photograph your gay wedding. Had a blast working at this wedding.
