Here’s one for you – a beautiful sunny and crisp Christmas wedding at Virginia Park Lodge.
Wedding at Virginia Park Lodge
Marie-Therese (a local girl) and Oliver (from the UK) celebrated their wedding in this stunning 5 star venue along with loads of family and guests from Ireland, UK and from all over the world. It was just before Christmas. We had snow, rain, biting wind, frost and glorious sun. All in the space of 12 hours. Here’s how their day went…
Wedding at Virginia Park Lodge
Marie-Therese and the bridesmaids get ready in Virginia Park Lodge that morning. As I arrived the venue was bathed in early morning sunlight. Absolutely beautiful. Then it started snowing. Still beautiful but emmm kinda worrying. Didn’t last long though so nothing to be worried about. 🙂
Bridal preps were nice and calm and everything bang on time
Meantime though the lads were getting ready at nearby Loughcrew Lodge. Completely relaxed vibe here and some amazing light filtering in through the windows as the guys got ready.
After they were suited and booted and a few formal photos were taken, it was time for a pre-ceremony drink..! The lads quickly made their way to Traynor’s Pub in Oldcastle for the perfect pint or two of Guinness.
The Church
Time to leave for the church. Marie-Therese looked incredible as she descended the stairs in Virginia Park Lodge to her waiting vintage wedding car. All the guest had arrived at the church by the time Marie-Therese pulled up with her dad in the open top car. A few quick photos at the church door (it was incredibly cold) before entering the beautifully decorated (and heated..!) church.
I have to say it was a stunning sight as Marie-Therese walking up the aisle accompanied by her father. After the hand over to Oliver the ceremony commenced and was celebrated by Fr Ray Kelly. Everybody had the enjoyment of listening to Fr Ray belt out a few songs.
Fr Ray is the Irish priest who became a worldwide internet sensation for his singing back in 2014.
The Reception
After the ceremony, it was over to Virginia Park Lodge for the wedding reception. Being a winter wedding an early church ceremony is essential as it gets dark so early. We needn’t have worried though as it was so bright and sunny it was never going to get dark as early as an overcast day. So we had loads of time for photos. The cold and completely wet ground though was the problem as it restricted our movements and choice of locations for photos. We stuck to the area just at the rear of the house and with the low winter sun it worked. Also perfect location for all the family photos.
Soon the cold became too much and we had to call it a day and move indoors. Before long the dinner bell sounded and the guests were led to the marquee for dinner. As this was happening we snuck in a sparkler shot..!
Speeches were held prior to the serving of the meal.
Finally the first dance… The end of a beautiful day at Virginia Park Lodge and with a wonderful couple.
