We worked out the timing and the spot together in advance, and on the evening itself, I tucked myself out of sight while Robert led Noël into position.

What I’ll remember most about this one is that Noël never stopped laughing the entire session — before the question, during it, and long after. That kind of genuine, unguarded joy is a gift for a photographer, because it means I’m not directing anything, just capturing what’s actually happening in front of me. The Kilkea Castle staff deserve a huge mention here too — they went above and beyond to help us pull the whole thing off without Noël suspecting a thing.
